Dashboard programmers: tools, adapters and selection checks

Compare programmer coverage, memory access and adapter requirements before choosing a tool for a dashboard or module.

Start with the memory device and the data you need to read. The workshop list includes CG100X, VVDI Prog, iProg, SMOK, DP4, DP5, CPT, OBDSTAR, UPA and Orange5; the checks below help narrow that list to the particular instrument and adapter.

Match the tool to the work

  • Confirm the complete EEPROM or MCU part number and physical package.
  • Check which memory regions the tool can access for that exact part.
  • Check whether the required adapter and connection diagram match your tool version.
  • Confirm the file format expected by the software that will use the read.

Adapters and connection references

The supplied adapter image belongs to a particular tool setup. Compare signal names and connector orientation with the programmer documentation; a similar connector does not establish an identical pin assignment.
